Purdue and MU athletic department statements conflict with Miklasz’s earlier report

UPDATE: MU spokesman Dave Reiter, in a text message to the Columbia Missourian sent at 11:49 a.m. on Wednesday, said there was no truth to the rumors that Matt Painter had called Mike Alden to accept the head coaching position at MU. The official said that reports are premature at this point.

Tom Schott, Purdue assistant athletic director for communications, told the Missourian in an email that he had seen Bernie Miklasz’s report, but has not been alerted about Painter contacting Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke with a decision.

The Missourian’s original post about Miklasz’s earlier report is below.

Bernie Miklasz, a columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, is reporting through an anonymous source that Painter is expected to accept Missouri’s offer today.

According to the source, Painter called Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden on Wednesday morning around 10:30 a.m. to inform Alden that he has accepted the job.

Mike DeArmond of the Kansas City Star discusses the timetable on Painter’s return to West Lafayette, Indiana, and the implications for Purdue and Missouri.

One Response to Purdue and MU athletic department statements conflict with Miklasz’s earlier report

  1. Black Movies says:

Would definitely have huge inplications for MU and PU. However, Painter’s an alum. He should def. stay at PU. MU may be a bit sexier, but i think there’d be some animosity down there if he “switched” to MU…
