Tale of two Okafors

The MU men’s basketball team plays its first regular season non-conference game Thursday against Western Illinois. If you scan over the Leatherneck basketball roster, you might find a familiar name. Western Illinois junior forward Emeka Okafor Jr. shares the same name as New Orleans Hornets center Emeka Okafor, former Connecticut standout and second pick of the 2004 NBA draft. According to Okafor Jr.’s bio, the players are third cousins. Fortunately for Missouri, Okafor Jr. doesn’t seem to be as dominant on the court as his older cousin. He has tallied a total of three points and eight rebounds in the Leathernecks’ first two games.
